ALUMINUM URD DIRECT BURIAL CABLE

Aluminum Direct Burial, URD Cable (600V), which stands for Underground Residential Distribution cable, is an aluminum wire designed specifically for underground utility systems. It plays a key role in secondary power distribution, carrying electricity from transformers directly to the service entrance or meter of homes and buildings. Also commonly used to provide power to detached garages, shops, sheds, well pumps & septic systems. Read our Aluminum URD Direct Burial Cable Buyers Guide.

ALUMINUM URD DIRECT BURIAL CABLE

Aluminum URD (Underground Residential Distribution) cable is specifically designed for secondary power distribution in underground electrical systems. Rated for 600V, this cable features high-strength 1350-H19 series aluminum conductors insulated with a thick layer of black Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE). This thermoset insulation provides superior resistance to moisture, heat, and mechanical abrasion, allowing for reliable operation in both wet and dry environments at temperatures up to 90°C. Engineered for maximum durability in harsh soil conditions, URD cable can be installed in ducts or buried directly in the earth, offering a cost-effective and resilient solution for modern utility and residential service entrance applications.

Key Features
  • Rugged XLPE Insulation: Phase conductors are insulated with black, sunlight-resistant cross-linked polyethylene for maximum protection against soil acidity and moisture.
  • Industry Compliance: Manufactured to meet or exceed ASTM B-230, B-231, and B-901 specifications, as well as ICEA S-105-692 and UL Standard 854 for Type USE-2.
  • Optimized Conductivity: Utilizes compressed or concentric stranded 1350-H19 series aluminum for efficient power delivery and reduced cable weight.
  • Safe Neutral Identification: Neutral conductors are clearly marked with extruded yellow stripes or solid yellow jackets to ensure proper phase identification during installation.
Common Applications
  • Secondary Utility Distribution: The primary choice for routing power from pad-mounted transformers to residential service meters.
  • Direct Burial Power Runs: Rated for direct burial in soil, eliminating the need for conduit in many underground utility environments.
  • Outdoor Lighting & Irrigation: Frequently used for powering street lighting, parking lot circuits, and large-scale agricultural irrigation systems.
  • Renewable Energy Projects: Suitable for secondary distribution in solar farm arrays and small-scale wind turbine installations.
  • Commercial Complex Wiring: Often deployed in strip malls and office parks for reliable, low-visibility power distribution between buildings.
