The 4/0 AWG aluminum cable is the high-capacity standard for primary feeders and main trunk lines. By using a 133% insulation level (220 mils), it provides a superior safety margin against voltage surges compared to standard 100% rated cables.
Water-Blocked Stranded Conductors: This cable features compressed concentric stranded 1350 series aluminum with interstitial spaces filled with a water-blocking compound. This stops longitudinal moisture migration if the cable's integrity is ever compromised.
133% TR-XLPE Insulation: Naturally high dielectric strength Tree-Retardant XLPE insulation resists the formation of "water trees," significantly extending the service life of underground infrastructure in wet environments.

The overall jacket diameter for 4/0 STR 15kV 133% URD is approximately 1.38 inches. For a single-conductor installation, a 2.5-inch to 3-inch conduit is standard. For a triplex configuration (three cables), a 4-inch or 5-inch conduit is recommended.
Because of the 1.38" diameter, a 4-inch conduit is the absolute minimum for triplex to avoid "jamming" and to maintain the NEC 40% fill limit. For long pulls with multiple bends, a 5-inch conduit may be required to ensure a safe installation.
