"Engineered for safe, cost-effective, and long-term underground power delivery, this 2-2-4-6 Aluminum Mobile Home Feeder (MHF) cable is the industry standard for hooking up secondary electrical services. Designed with four dedicated conductors to support modern electrical code requirements, it features a highly resilient cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation that allows for direct burial without the need for expensive conduit runs."

Why Professionals Choose 2-2-4-6 Aluminum MHF Cable

When running underground power to a mobile or manufactured home, managing material and labor costs is everything. This 2-2-4-6 Aluminum MHF Cable delivers a code-compliant, 100-Amp capacity at a fraction of the cost of copper. Built with rugged AA-8000 aluminum alloy, it features four pre-bundled wires: two #2 hots, one #4 neutral, and one #6 ground. Because each wire is wrapped in sunlight-resistant XLPE insulation, you can drop this cable directly into a trench without running expensive conduit, saving you serious time and money on the job site.

  • 100-Amp Direct Burial Rating: Engineered explicitly for subsurface trenching, removing the expense and time of running a continuous protective conduit system.

  • Premium AA-8000 Aluminum: Built with compact stranded 8000-series aluminum alloy for excellent conductivity, reduced cable weight, and high resistance to kinking during field layout.

  • Triple-Rated Protection: Insulated and listed under USE-2 / RHH / RHW-2, allowing it to seamlessly transition from deep underground trenches right up into outdoor breaker enclosures.

  • Sunlight & Weather Resistant: The heavy-duty black XLPE jacket completely blocks out damage from intense UV rays and aggressive, highly alkaline subsurface soil chemicals.

The primary difference is NEC code compliance for residential structures. Standard quadruplex URD cable does not have a code-recognized insulation type (like RHW-2 or USE-2 printed on the individual wires) and usually features a yellow-striped neutral. MHF cable is specifically Type USE-2/RHH/RHW-2 rated, possesses a fully white neutral and a dedicated green ground conductor, and is legally permitted by the National Electrical Code (NEC Article 550) to enter the interior of a home to hook up to the main breaker panel.

Yes, absolutely. MHF is a Type USE-2 (Underground Service Entrance) cable engineered with rugged Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. It is explicitly rated for direct burial in the earth without the need for conduit for the main trench run.

Pro Tip: While the horizontal run in the trench can be direct-buried, you must protect the cable with a rigid conduit (like Schedule 80 PVC) where it transitions out of the ground up to the meter pedestal and where it enters the home's foundation

According to NEC Table 300.5, the standard burial depth for direct-buried MHF cable (rated up to 600V) is 24 inches deep in normal soil. If you choose to run the entire length of the MHF cable inside a approved PVC conduit system, in many jurisdictions, the minimum burial depth requirement drops to 18 inches.

Note: Always check with your local electrical inspector, as some municipal jurisdictions have stricter trench depth requirements.

Mobile Home Feeder (MHF) cable is a heavy-duty underground service entrance cable specifically designed to supply electrical power from an outdoor service pedestal or meter main to the distribution panelboard inside a mobile home or manufactured home. It features a quadruplex design consisting of two phase conductors (black), a neutral conductor (marked with a yellow stripe), and a dedicated grounding wire, making it fully code-compliant for safe, direct-burial power delivery. While engineered for manufactured homes, its cost-effectiveness makes this cable highly popular for running 100-Amp sub-panels to detached garages, workshops, and barns.

The amp rating for 2-2-4-6 Aluminum MHF is 100 Amps (Direct Burial / 90°C Wet or Dry Locations)

Wire America ships all of our Mobile Home Feeder cable directly from our centralized fulfillment centers throughout the United States.
